PUBLISHING

Editora Vida Cristã (Christian Life Publishing Company) is the main branch of THE WORD FOR BRAZIL.

Through EVC, we are able to publish literature faithful to the Scriptures and to place it in bookstores throughout Brazil and other countries, such as Portugal, Mozambique (Africa), and some in the United States that carry books in Portuguese. We are able to reach non-Christians as well as Christians nationwide.

EVC participates in evangelistic efforts. Through its PARTNERS IN EVANGELISM program, EVC enables congregations of all sizes in Brazil to acquire books and other material to be used in evangelism at a substantial discount, below cost. The Itaquera Church of Christ, in Sao Paulo, uses the method we are suggesting as an alternative for vangelistic efforts around the country. Through this program, church members distribute free literature (mainly books) to the neighbours. The church in Itaquera has seen an unprecedented number of visitors since starting this effort.

EVC evaluates the contents of each book before it is published, making sure that it reflects the teachings of the Bible, and that it can be helpful to the church for the training of workers, spiritual growth, evangelism, or personal study.

EVC has had a web site since late 1996, the first web site by a Christian publishing company in Brazil. Despite its smaller size when compared to the great publishing companies, EVC is among the leaders in utilizing the internet in Christian publishing. Other companies are following EVC's example, and are now publishing e-newsletters like EVC's VIDA CRISTA PUBLICnet, a bilingual e-newsletter launched in July of 1997.

EVC depends heavily on sponsors to publish books and periodicals. The church in Brazil is not very large, making it nearly impossible for EVC to survive solely from the proceeds of sales. EVC also suffers from the problems of distribution in Brazil. Bookstores are not very large and are dominated by denominations.

A long-term goal of EVC is to become self-sustained, so that the publishing work in Brazil can be carried on without outside help. This can only be achieved if we are able to invest enough resources in this ministry for a period of time long enough for THE WORD FOR BRAZIL to be able to break-even and generate sufficient income for publications. In order to print a book, EVC seeks partners or sponsors, who are willing to invest in this ministry, helping to provide the tools the church needs to grow.
